Frequently asked questions

No. In British Columbia you can see a physiotherapist directly without a doctor's referral — this is called direct access and applies to most extended health benefit plans as well.

Most extended health benefit plans in BC cover physiotherapy, acupuncture, and massage therapy. The amount varies by plan. We direct bill to most major insurers including Manulife, Sun Life, and Pacific Blue Cross.

You can start physiotherapy, acupuncture, massage, or chiropractic treatment immediately after a motor vehicle accident through ICBC without pre-approval. Call us and we will handle the billing and paperwork directly with ICBC.

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows your therapist to access the area being treated. For lower body issues, shorts are ideal. For shoulder or neck issues, a tank top or loose t-shirt works well.

Your initial assessment is typically 45-60 minutes. Follow-up sessions are 30-45 minutes. The number of sessions varies depending on your condition, but your clinician will give you a clear treatment plan at your first visit.

Acupuncture needles are extremely thin — about the width of a human hair. Most patients feel minimal to no discomfort. IMS may cause a brief muscle twitch which quickly subsides. Both are well tolerated by the vast majority of patients.
